Oscar Piastri topped the timesheets during Friday’s sole practice session for the Miami Grand Prix, leading Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen. The practice was shortened after a late crash by Ollie Bearman brought out the red flags.
The Sprint format was in play, giving drivers just one hour to get familiar with the track and dial in their cars ahead of Sprint Qualifying later in the day. As such, most drivers started their weekends with leisurely runs on medium and hard compound tyres.
Piastri produced a 1m 27.128s to finish comfortably clear of Leclerc, Verstappen, and Williams’ Carlos Sainz. However, some drivers behind missed out on representative soft-tyre laps due to the red flags.
The top six spots were filled by Piastri, Russell, Tsunoda, Antonelli, Hadjar, and Alonso. Norris was 12th, with Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton in 13th place. The rest of the pack was filled by drivers from Alpine, Red Bull Racing, and other teams.
