Pirates’ Paul Skenes Set for Thursday Start Against Cubs

Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes will take the mound again when they host the Chicago Cubs. In his sixth start of 2025, Skenes is looking to improve his 3-2 record against a tough right-hander in Colin Rea.

Skenes has shown promise this season, boasting a 2.39 ERA and 39 strikeouts through 37.2 innings pitched. Last time out, he held the Los Angeles Dodgers scoreless for 6.1 innings, striking out nine while surrendering just five hits. The Pirates’ receivers also stepped up to keep the Dodgers scoreless in their previous game.

A former LSU star, Skenes helped lead his team to a College World Series title in 2023. He made a notable debut as an All-Star for the National League last year and is expected to make a similar impact this week.
