A brawl broke out between the Detroit Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday at the Target Center in Minneapolis, resulting in seven ejections, including two coaches. The altercation began with a foul by Pistons’ guard Ron Holland on Timberwolves’ forward Naz Reid as Reid attempted a layup. Reid immediately had words for Holland, leading to a heated exchange that spilled into the stands.
Multiple players and coaches from both teams joined in, with Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff and Timberwolves assistant Pablo Prigioni among those ejected. The melee involved several players, including Ron Holland, Naz Reid, Donte DiVincenzo, Isaiah Stewart, and Marcus Sasser.
The brawl occurred with 8:36 left in the second quarter, giving the Timberwolves a chance to rally from a 39-29 deficit. Minnesota outscored Detroit by 29 points in the final three quarters, winning the game 123-104. The Pistons were down three players in the aftermath, while the Timberwolves lost two.
The NBA office is expected to issue significant suspensions and fines for those involved, following a similar incident with the Milwaukee Bucks last year that sparked “the Malice in the Palace” melee.
