Pixel 6 Pro and 7 Pro Users Baffled by Excluded UWB Precision Finding

Google has confirmed that its latest Pixel 6 Pro and 7 Pro smartphones will not receive the UWB precision finding feature, despite having the necessary hardware. This leaves older Pixel users worried about compatibility with upcoming UWB trackers like Moto Tag.

Google initially added UWB to its Pro-series lineup in 2021 with the Pixel 6 Pro, but has since limited it to newer phones from the Pixel 8 series onwards. However, Pixel 6 Pro and 7 Pro users are now finding that they can’t use this feature even though their devices have the required hardware.

The issue was reported on Google’s support forums, where a user confirmed that their Pixel 7 Pro couldn’t activate precision finding with a new Moto Tag. A Google product expert later responded, stating that UWB precision finding is only available on newer phones from the Pixel 8 series and above.

As a result, older Pixel users may want to steer clear of buying UWB trackers like Moto Tag in the future, as it’s unclear whether they will be compatible with their devices.
