At least five people were injured when a plane bound for Houston experienced severe turbulence mid-flight on Sunday, March 2. The United Airlines jet, operated by SkyWest Airlines, made an emergency landing at Waco Regional Airport in Texas after departing from Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri.
The injured passengers were taken to local hospitals with “non-life-threatening” injuries. The cause of the turbulence was not disclosed. The plane, which was carrying 32 people, including 29 passengers, landed one hour and 40 minutes ahead of schedule at Waco Regional Airport.
According to flight tracking data, the plane took off seven minutes early and remained on the ground for an extended period due to the mechanical issue. A total of three flights were diverted to Waco Regional Airport that night, including two American Airlines flights. The United Airlines plane would remain at the airport for one to two days to be inspected by mechanics.
