A new study published in Nature Medicine has found that a plant-rich diet with low intake of ultra-processed foods significantly improves the odds of healthy aging. Researchers analyzed data from over 105,000 women and men aged 39-69 and found that adhering to any one of eight dietary patterns, including the Alternative Healthy Eating Index (AHEI) and Plant-Based Diet Index (PHDI), was linked to overall healthy aging. The study suggests that a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and nuts, with moderate inclusion of healthy animal-based foods, may promote overall healthy aging.
