A recently revealed PlayStation 5 dinosaur horror game, Code Violet, will not be released on PC due to concerns over modders creating “vulgar” versions of the main character. Developed by TeamKill Media, the studio behind Quantum Error, the game follows protagonist Violet Sinclair as she attempts to escape a complex overrun by dinosaurs.
The decision comes after TeamKill stated they do not want mods that alter the main character’s appearance for “adult purposes,” which they believe could tarnish the reputation of voice actresses and actors. The developer expressed its concerns through a tweet, which was viewed over 1.3 million times on Twitter.
While this decision has sparked debate about modding rights in video games, other developers have also addressed similar concerns. Final Fantasy director Naoki Hamaguchi recently asked fans to refrain from creating “inappropriate” mods for the upcoming PC release. Koei Tecmo, the developer of Dead or Alive, removes over 3,000 pieces of offensive fan art each year.
TeamKill clarified that it is not against modders in general, but rather p*rnographic mods. The studio emphasized its commitment to artistic vision and protecting voice actresses and actors’ reputations. However, it did not provide a reason for the absence of an Xbox version of Code Violet, stating that it lacked the time and expertise to devote to the platform.
