Sony has announced a significant milestone in PlayStation 5 sales, with the console now having shipped 80.3 million units worldwide as of June 30, 2025. This marks an additional 2.5 million consoles sold compared to the same period last year, indicating steady growth.
The company’s financial results also show a rise in PlayStation Network subscribers, reaching 123 million users year-over-year. The combined sales of PS5 and PS4 games increased by 12.3 million, with Sony’s first-party games accounting for 6.9 million units sold.
The PS5 is closing in on the lifetime totals of older consoles such as Xbox 360 and PS3. While it still has room to grow, its sales are impressive considering it has been available for five years. The best-selling console of all time remains Sony’s PS2, which has sold over 160 million units.
The longevity of this generation largely depends on the release date of the next-generation PlayStation console, expected in 2027.
