PlayStation Network Downtime Brought Back with 5-Day Extension

The PlayStation Network (PSN) is back online after a 24-hour outage that affected PlayStation 5 and PS4 users worldwide. To make up for the extended downtime, Sony is offering free additional time to its paying subscribers.

Sony apologized for the inconvenience and thanked users for their patience on February 9. All PlayStation Plus members will automatically receive an extra 5 days of service, which should be added directly to their accounts and push back their renewal dates by nearly a week.

However, the cause of the outage remains unclear. Sony’s explanation is brief and vague, stating that “network services have fully recovered from an operational issue.” The company did not provide further details about what went wrong or whether it might happen again.

While the duration of the outage may seem similar to another infamous PSN outage in 2011, which was caused by a malicious hack, fans can breathe a sigh of relief that their accounts appear to be secure.
