Tadej Pogacar has taken the yellow jersey in the Tour de France after winning stage five of the individual time trial. Remco Evenepoel won the stage, averaging 54km/h and finishing 16 seconds quicker than Pogacar.
Pogacar’s teammate Jonas Vingegaard struggled in the individual time trial, ending up 13th and losing over a minute to his leader. This move has propelled Evenepoel into second place in the general classification standings, just 42 seconds behind Pogacar.
The stage also saw a strong performance from Italy’s Edoardo Affini, who came third with a time of 36 minutes 42 seconds. The result has set the stage for an exciting Tour de France, with Evenepoel aiming to make his mark on the competition.
Pogacar’s victory marks a significant moment in the history of the Tour de France, as he becomes the first rider to wear the yellow, green, and polka-dot jerseys simultaneously. The Slovenian rider will now look to defend his position at the top of the general classification standings heading into the next stage.
