Pokémon Fan Spends $87,840 on Viral Cheeto Collectible

A diehard Pokémon fan has spent a staggering $87,840 on a single, viral Cheeto shaped like Charizard. The Cheetozard, made from a Flamin’ Hot Cheeto, was initially discovered and preserved between 2018-2022 by a collectibles company. Its popularity surged in late 2024 after being featured on social media platforms.

The buyer also received a custom Pokémon card and storage box to preserve the snack’s value. The Cheetozard is only three inches long, making it an expensive investment at $29,000 per inch. This purchase raises questions about the wisdom of investing in rare collectibles, particularly in the Pokémon market, which has seen out-of-control prices in recent years.

The phenomenon is reminiscent of previous high-profile sales, such as a 2021 Pokémon card sold for $1.2 million and the infamous “Van Gogh kerfuffle” of fall 2023. As the secondhand market continues to thrive, it remains to be seen whether this purchase will prove to be a wise investment or simply another example of the market’s excesses.
