The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) market has taken center stage, clearing 17 spots on the recent chart, up from 14 last month. The game accounts for close to 70% of the list, with sales reaching an almost unimaginable amount. Newer Pokémon TCG products are gaining value immediately after release, such as Prismatic Evolutions, showcasing the game’s strength.
Other TCGs, like Magic: The Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh!, continue to hold their own despite not matching Pokémon’s success. Final Fantasy Collector Boosters and Aetherdrift are performing well, while Jump to Lightspeed, a new Star Wars Unlimited set, is pre-selling well. One Piece CG’s performance has declined due to lack of recent expansions.
The rapid decline in popularity of the Pokémon TCG seems to be attributed to its print-to-meet-demand plan and retailers’ mass-discounting boxes for sets like Into the Inklands. However, the overall health of the TCG market looks promising. While Pokémon is currently a juggernaut, other mid-size and small TCGs are still generating significant revenue, albeit on a smaller scale than their larger counterparts.
