Poland is set to build a 500,000-strong army as it seeks to counter Russia’s growing threat. Prime Minister Donald Tusk told parliament that all men will undergo military training in an effort to strengthen the country’s defenses.
The move comes amid concerns across Europe that the US is shifting its allegiance away from traditional Western alliances and towards Russia. Poland views this shift as a potentially existential threat, sparking fears of a new Cold War.
In response, Tusk revealed that Poland is discussing potential protection under France’s nuclear umbrella with French President Emmanuel Macron. This development marks an effort by Warsaw to ensure its security in the face of rising tensions between Europe and Russia.
