Pope Francis Commends Missionaries of Mercy’s Forgiveness Ministry

Pope Francis has commended the work of hundreds of Missionaries of Mercy gathered in Rome over the weekend. These priests are part of a special jubilee dedicated to their role as confessors, who can absolve certain sins.

Approximately 500 priests from around the world attended the gathering, which included training sessions and a pilgrimage through the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica. The pontiff expressed his gratitude for their work in his message, stating that they bear witness to God’s infinite love and forgiveness.

The Missionaries of Mercy were first commissioned during Pope Francis’ 2016 Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy. Their numbers have grown significantly, with over 1,250 worldwide, including around 100 serving in the US. The pontiff urged them to maintain a compassionate approach, encouraging them to be attentive listeners and steadfast companions for those seeking forgiveness.

Pope Francis reflected on the connection between mercy and hope, saying that conversion and forgiveness are key to God’s love. He encouraged the priests to revive hope and offer forgiveness whenever sinners come to them with open hearts. The pontiff concluded his message by blessing the missionaries and requesting their prayers.
