Pope Francis remains hospitalized as his health condition stabilizes. The Vatican reported a slight improvement in his blood tests after recent screenings, indicating fewer inflammatory markers. His clinical condition is now described as stationary.
The 88-year-old pontiff has been receiving treatment for a polymicrobial respiratory infection at Gemelli Hospital since Friday. He was recently diagnosed with double pneumonia on February 18. Despite this, Francis has continued to stay active, having breakfast, reading newspapers, and working with his secretaries. He also received the Eucharist before lunch and met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni for 20 minutes in the afternoon.
Meloni described Francis as “alert and responsive,” saying they joked together like always. The Vatican source confirmed that Francis does not require supplemental oxygen and is doing well, with his heart holding up well. He is able to occasionally sit in an armchair.
Francis is receiving cortisone antibiotic therapy for a complex medical situation. Despite this, he remains in good spirits and asks for continued prayers from the public.
