Pope Francis Hospitalized with Respiratory Infection

Pope Francis has been hospitalized due to a polymicrobial infection in the respiratory tract, requiring longer hospitalization, according to Vatican News.

The Pope was first admitted to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on February 14th for bronchitis. His condition has since changed, and medical tests now indicate a complex clinical picture that will require hospitalization.

In good spirits, Pope Francis spoke with parishioners from the Holy Family Parish in Gaza, led by Father Gabriel Romanelli, during his hospital stay. He used video-calls to connect with the community, despite experiencing fatigue. The Pope expressed gratitude for their prayers and closeness.

Vatican officials have cancelled the Pope’s General Audience due to his ongoing health issues. However, a written message sent by the Pope to Father Gabriel on Sunday expressed appreciation for the parish’s support and prayers.

The Holy See Press Office has confirmed that Pope Francis is receiving necessary treatment and hopes for his swift recovery soon.
