Pope Francis Recovering from Pneumonia in Rome Hospital

Pope Francis has made a slight improvement in his pneumonia recovery, according to new blood test results. The 88-year-old pontiff was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli hospital on February 14 after worsening bronchitis and is taking antibiotics and cortisone for asthmatic bronchitis.

Despite health concerns due to his age, respiratory issues, and previous lung surgery, Francis showed good spirits during a visit from Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni. She reported that he joked around as always. Doctors are closely monitoring Francis’s condition, particularly given the risk of complications in elderly patients with fluid expulsion difficulties.

Francis was diagnosed with pneumonia in both lungs, on top of a polymicrobial infection in his respiratory tract. He is not physically active and uses a wheelchair due to knee problems. The Vatican has confirmed six peaceful nights at the hospital so far, indicating a promising recovery trajectory for the 88-year-old pope.
