Pope Francis is in a stable clinical condition after spending the night at a hospital in Rome, where he is receiving treatment for bronchitis. The Vatican’s press office said on Sunday that he rested well overnight and continued his recovery.
On Saturday, medical staff prescribed Pope Francis “absolute rest” to recover from his respiratory tract infection, which led to him skipping his usual Angelus prayer. However, the pontiff was seen having a peaceful second night in hospital, sleeping well, eating breakfast, and reading newspapers as he usually does.
Pope Francis has been struggling with bronchitis for weeks and asked aides to read speeches and addresses due to breathing difficulties. Despite this, he held meetings at the Vatican on Friday morning before being admitted to the hospital.
The 88-year-old pontiff expressed gratitude to healthcare workers and the public for their support during his recovery. He praised doctors and healthcare workers for their care, saying they do a “valuable and tiring job.”
