Pope Francis Returns to Health with Brief Audio Message

Pope Francis expressed gratitude to his supporters for their prayers, lifting spirits among his faithful despite growing concerns over his health. The 88-year-old pontiff spoke in a pre-recorded audio message, marking the first time he addressed his followers since his hospitalization three weeks ago.

The Pope’s remarks were broadcast on loudspeakers at St. Peter’s Square ahead of the nightly rosary prayer. He thanked supporters for their prayers and expressed appreciation from his heart, accompanied by a blessing from God and the Virgin Mary. The square erupted in applause upon hearing Francis’ words.

Francis has been hospitalized since February 14 due to lung-related medical issues, including bronchitis and double pneumonia. This is his fourth hospital stay since becoming pope in 2013. Doctors have described his health prognosis as “reserved,” but he remains stable after several episodes of acute respiratory failure on Monday.

The Pope continues with respiratory and motor physiotherapy, engaging in work activities throughout the day while receiving the Eucharist before lunch. His schedule has been cleared to accommodate intensive medical treatment. He missed leading the Ash Wednesday service for only the second time in his 12-year papacy and has not led the Angelus prayer for three Sundays in a row.

Francis’ health remains a concern, but his brief audio message lifted spirits among his followers.
