Pope Francis Stable After Chest Scan Confirms Progress

Pope Francis has made a positive update in his hospital condition, according to the Vatican. A recent chest scan confirmed improvements in his respiratory issues, marking a stable trend for over a week. The 88-year-old pontiff was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli hospital with severe respiratory infection double pneumonia on February 14.

Francis’ clinical status has shown signs of improvement since his admission, and his doctors have stated he is no longer at immediate risk of death after three weeks of treatment, including four acute respiratory crises. The pope has undergone respiratory physiotherapy to aid breathing and physical therapy for mobility.

Despite previous lung issues, Francis’ condition appears stable. He had part of one lung removed due to pleurisy as a young adult. The Vatican has not provided a timeframe for his hospital discharge.

Doctors have expressed concerns about the pope’s long road to recovery, given his age and medical conditions. With over 12 years in office, Francis’ public absence is notable.
