Pope Leo XIV addressed over 1 million Catholic youths at the closing Mass of a week-long encounter with the next generation of faithful, urging them to spread their enthusiasm and witness of faith when returning home.
The Pope reminded the young people that they are “the sign that a different world is possible” where conflicts can be resolved through dialogue rather than violence. He highlighted the importance of fraternity, friendship, and holiness, encouraging them to aspire to great things and live out their faith wherever they are.
The Jubilee celebration is part of the Holy Year, expected to draw 32 million people to the Vatican for the centuries-old pilgrimage to the seat of Catholicism. The Pope also shared that a tragic incident occurred during the week’s events, with two young pilgrims dying, but emphasized his solidarity with those affected and with all young people suffering.
Despite the challenges faced by some participants, including rain overnight, the atmosphere remained joyful and enthusiastic. The young people had spent the previous day singing hymns, praying rosaries, and participating in confession services offered by priests in several languages.
