Pope Leo XIV Urges Catholics to Embrace Holy Spirit

Pope Leo XIV has called on Catholics to embrace the Holy Spirit as a source of freedom and grace, addressing a massive crowd in St. Peter’s Square during his first Pentecost as pope. He emphasized the importance of “the way of the Beatitudes” to spread the Gospel message and urged the faithful to adopt this path to walk together in unity.

The pope stated that the Holy Spirit teaches us to sense each other’s presence, like the fragrance of Christ. He noted that synodality demands recognizing our own poverty and richness as part of a greater whole. Pope Leo XIV also highlighted the interconnectedness of all creation and the need for coexistence, citing his predecessor’s encyclical Laudato Si’.

He emphasized that where there is the Spirit, there is movement, and it teaches us to walk together in unity. The pope said that evangelization is not about conquering the world but rather radiating infinite grace from lives transformed by the Kingdom of God.

To walk this path, Pope Leo XIV urged Catholics to be deeply attached to their parishes and Church communities, working harmoniously as one. He concluded by saying that obeying the Holy Spirit can make humanity’s challenges less frightening and the future brighter.
