Porsche GT3 and 911 Carrera T: High-Performance Updates

Porsche has updated its iconic 911 lineup, focusing on motorsport-bred pace and low-frills driving enjoyment. The latest additions to the stable are the GT3 and 911 Carrera T, which offer improved aerodynamics, lightweight components, and enhanced performance.

The GT3 has seen minimal changes, with a focus on maintaining its winning formula. The car’s aerodynamics have been sharpened through enhanced downforce and the use of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic in parts of the bodywork. The 4.0-litre naturally aspirated flat-six engine remains largely untouched, but features revised cylinder heads and a more aggressive camshaft profile, allowing it to rev up to 9,000 r/min.

The GT3 is available with a standard 6-speed manual gearbox or optional 7-speed PDK transmission, both of which feature a shorter final drive ratio that improves top-end driveability. The car can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 313 km/h.

For those seeking more long-distance civility, the Touring Package offers a more subtle aesthetic, along with optional rear seat system and 18-way adaptive sports seats. The Leichtbau package adds magnesium forged wheels, lightweight doors, and a body-coloured roof, as well as components made from carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic.

The 911 Carrera T is a lighter, driver-focused take on the standard Carrera, with features like thinner glazing, reduced insulation, and a six-speed manual transmission that reduces kerb weight by 40 kg. The car’s aerodynamic design includes an optimised rear spoiler, and it’s powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre flat-six developing 290 kW and 450 N.m.

The T features rear-axle steering and the PASM active suspension management system, as well as a sharper electric power-assisted steering setup. It can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 295 km/h. The car is now available to order, with prices starting at R2,735,000 for the coupé and R3,019,000 for the cabriolet.
