A fireball streaked across the southern US sky on Saturday night, leaving many wondering what it could have been. According to reports from the American Meteor Society, 120 sightings of the event were recorded in five states: Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Missouri.
Videos of the occurrence showed a brief flash of light, sparking speculation about its origin. Many thought it might be an asteroid or meteors from the Ursid meteor shower. However, experts believe that space debris breaking apart within Earth’s atmosphere is the most likely explanation.
The event coincided with the expected break-up of a Chinese space satellite on Saturday evening. Online reports suggest that this could be the source of the fireball. Despite numerous sightings and online reports, no official confirmation has been issued by authorities to identify what caused the possible space debris.
