Postal Service Considerates Staff Cuts Amid Financial Struggles

The United States Postal Service (USPS) is exploring potential staff reductions and budget cuts in a bid to address its financial woes. According to Postmaster Louis DeJoy, the postal service may work with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) on a 30-day voluntary early retirement program that could impact up to 10,000 workers.

This move aims to reduce the USPS’s $87 billion accumulated losses between 2007 and 2020. The postal service has faced criticism from residents in Georgia and Northeast Florida over delayed mail deliveries, with many experiencing problems for months.

Resident Barbara Castaldi, who has missed receiving mail due to package returns, expressed concern that job cuts would harm the service rather than benefit it. “I think it’s going to be ridiculous… I think that’s the end of the post office.”

USPS customers are also uncertain about the impact on delivery services. A customer spoke off-camera, stating they didn’t believe job cuts would affect delivery times.

The USPS has yet to comment on this story, awaiting further response.
