Potential Temple Football Coaches for the Job

Temple Owls need a big-splash hire to turn their football program around after parting ways with Stan Drayton. The team hasn’t had a winning record since 2019 and is seeking an 18th head coach. Four candidates have been identified as top options.

Jeff Nixon, Syracuse’s offensive coordinator and running backs coach, has helped elevate the Mountaineers’ offense to new heights. He has experience in both college and NFL coaching and was briefly with Temple in 2006. A mutual interest exists between Nixon and Temple, making him a prime candidate for the job.

Bryant Haines, Indiana’s defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, led the Hoosiers to their best start in program history. He has developed a stifling defense that ranks among the best nationally. While he lacks experience as a head coach, his potential is significant, especially if he brings an excellent offensive mind to the position.

Deion Barnes, Penn State’s defensive line coach, could be a splashy hire who would boost recruiting efforts in the New Jersey and Philadelphia areas. He has successfully developed talented edge rushers at Penn State and recruited several draft picks for the team.

Glenn Thomas, Nebraska’s co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, is another candidate with extensive experience in both college and NFL coaching. He previously worked at Temple from 2015-16, helping guide two successful seasons for the program.
