John Welbourn, the founder and CEO of Power Athlete, Inc., is a former 9-year NFL starter. Drafted in 1999, he played for the Philadelphia Eagles (1999-2004) and Kansas City Chiefs (2004-2007). His NFL career was marked by 10 playoff appearances, including three NFC Championship games.
After retiring from football, Welbourn joined CrossFit, Inc. in 2009 to develop his own adaptation of CrossFit principles for athletes. The program quickly gained popularity, with his website receiving 17k unique hits on its launch day. From 2009-2017, he worked with thousands of athletes daily, conducting in-person seminars worldwide.
Welbourn has also worked closely with the US Military, including Naval Special Warfare and the Army’s 18th Airborne Corps. He has taught in-person seminars to soldier athletes and implemented Power Athlete systems across the force.
As a consultant and advisor for multiple companies focused on human performance, Welbourn operates his own coaching network and training program delivery platform. His podcast, Power Athlete Radio, features discussions on optimizing performance and connecting with exceptional individuals.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Welbourn is committed to philanthropy through his charitable organization, Wade’s Army. Founded in 2012, the organization has raised over a million dollars for neuroblastoma and pediatric cancer research.
Welbourn is also a dedicated husband and father, residing in Austin, Texas, with his family. When not working, he enjoys activities such as welding, land management, hunting, shooting, and combatives. A skilled Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, Welbourn personally oversees the training of top players.
