Power Team Penske Cars Fail Indy 500 Qualifying Inspection

Roger Penske’s team was dealt a blow at the Indianapolis 500, as both Josef Newgarden and Will Power failed technical inspection for their cars. The issue centered on an unapproved body fit on the rear attenuator, which could potentially provide an aerodynamic advantage.

According to IndyCar, the Nos. 2 and 12 cars were found to have a violation in this area. However, power’s car was initially cleared by inspection, prompting Team Penske president Tim Cindric to believe that the issue would be caught later. As a result, both teams made adjustments on pit lane with tools such as blow torches and grinders.

The discrepancy between IndyCar’s statement and Cindric’s claim has sparked confusion. “We didn’t do it right,” Cindric said of their approach.

As a result, Team Penske’s drivers will start the race from Row 4, behind pole sitter Scott McLaughlin and second fastest qualifier Scott Dixon.
