Microsoft has released PowerToys version 0.86, bringing a revamped interface and new features to the set of Windows utilities. The first noticeable change is the reworked left pane, featuring tabs for grouped utilities, settings, and the dashboard. This layout change aims to organize the tools more efficiently, with enabled and disabled utilities easily accessible on the dashboard.
One key feature in this version is Advanced Paste, which simplifies the paste process by allowing users to convert text to markdown, JSON code, or even connect to OpenAI for AI-powered reformatting. Additionally, “image to text” and “paste to file” features have been added. The image to text feature uses Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology to extract text from images with surprising accuracy.
PowerToys also includes a quick “paste as .png file” feature, which converts copied images to PNG format instantly, regardless of the original file type. For converting text to specific formats, such as TXT or HTML, PowerToys generates an auto-named file upon pasting.
The new version requires Windows 10 version 2004 or later and is available for download from the Microsoft Store or GitHub releases page.
