Microsoft’s PowerToys 0.95 update brings a big improvement to the Peek feature in Windows 11. Peek, similar to macOS’s Quick Look, allows users to preview files without launching their corresponding apps. In Windows 11, you can only use Peek with two or more keys, but with PowerToys 0.95, you can now trigger it with just one key press using the Spacebar.
PowerToys 0.95 lets you switch from Ctrl + Space to just Spacebar for Peek. To make this change, go to Settings > File Management > Peek and select “Spacebar” from the activation method drop-down. This new feature allows users to quickly preview files without needing multiple key presses or having to launch a separate program.
While Peek can handle many file formats, heavier files might take longer to load. However, with this update, Windows 11 users now have access to a more convenient and user-friendly way to view their files. The PowerToys team should promote this feature to all Windows 11 users, as it’s one of the many cool features available but often overlooked due to its lesser-known status.
