Prankster Overloads Waymo Driverless Taxis in San Francisco

A young software engineer, Riley Walz, has gone viral for sending 50 driverless Waymo vehicles down a dead-end street in San Francisco. The prank caused the vehicle service to shut down in the area. Walz claimed he orchestrated the stunt as a “DDoS” or distributed denial of service attack, overwhelming Waymo’s network.

On social media, Walz stated that no one got in the cars and they left after 10 minutes, charging a $5 no-show fee. He also praised Waymo for handling the situation well, disabling rides within a two-block vicinity until the morning.

This is not Walz’s first tech-based prank to cause online stir. Last month, he launched a website allowing visitors to track parking enforcement officers and their vehicles.
