Prime Video has officially confirmed a third season of its fantasy drama series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”. The show, which premiered to huge success and became Prime Video’s biggest TV premiere, is set to begin filming in spring at Shepperton Studios in the UK. Production is currently in pre-production, with no release date announced yet.
The new season will feature a significant time jump from the second season finale, where Sauron begins crafting the iconic One Ring. The show’s creators have confirmed that this development marks the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, setting the stage for an epic battle in Middle-earth.
Returning director Charlotte Brandstrom will helm two episodes, while Sanaa Hamri is back for her third season. Stefan Schwartz, a newcomer to the series, has been tapped as a new director. The show’s success continues to drive Prime membership sign-ups, with Amazon reporting 170 million viewers worldwide and making it one of its strongest drivers for new memberships.
The Rings of Power was created by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, along with executive producers Lindsey Weber, Justin Doble, Kate Hazell, and Charlotte Brandstrom. The show has received critical acclaim and remains a fan favorite, solidifying its place in the world of fantasy drama.
