Prince Guillaume to Succeed Father as Grand Duke of Luxembourg

Prince Guillaume, the eldest child of Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, will succeed his father on October 3, 2025. The announcement was made by Grand Duke Henri in his 2024 Christmas speech. As the natural next step, Prince Guillaume has been appointed Lieutenant-Représentant, a position that signals his readiness to take over as head of state.

Born on November 11, 1981, Prince Guillaume is the eldest of five siblings. He has four younger children with his wife Princess Stéphanie, who was married to him in 2012. The couple welcomed their first child in 2020 and their second son last year. Apart from his royal duties, Prince Guillaume enjoys playing guitar and participating in various sports, including tennis, skiing, swimming, and water sports.

As the new Grand Duke, Prince Guillaume will focus on contributing to the well-being of Luxembourg. He is fluent in five languages, including Luxembourgish, French, German, English, and Spanish. Additionally, he has been appointed Chief Scout of Luxembourg since 2019. With his father’s abdication, Prince Guillaume marks the beginning of a new era for the Grand Ducal family.
