Prince Harry has been accused of “harassment and bullying at scale” by Sophie Chandauka, chairwoman of Sentebale, a charity co-founded by the royal in 2006. The accusations came after Prince Harry quit as patron of the charity, along with co-founder Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, and the board of trustees.
Chandauka claimed that Prince Harry authorized the release of damaging news to the outside world without informing her or other key individuals at the charity. She said this was an example of harassment and bullying on a large scale, affecting herself and 540 others in the Sentebale organization.
The decision to quit came after a report by CNN suggested the board of trustees had been informed about Prince Harry’s departure before he made it public. However, Sentebale stated that no resignation letter from the patrons had been received.
Chandauka previously alleged that there was tension between the charity’s UK-based staff and those in Lesotho and Botswana, which she claimed was triggered by her efforts to shift decision-making to leaders in southern Africa.
Prince Harry said he was “in shock” after deciding to quit Sentebale. In a joint statement with Prince Seeiso, the two men apologized for their resignation but did not provide further details.
Chandauka described the situation as an example of a woman who blew the whistle on issues of poor governance and bullying, only to be met with cover-ups. The charity’s board of trustees remains firm in their decision to quit, citing the need to allow the truth to come out.
