Prince Harry Openly Discusses Media Scrutiny and Online Safety

Prince Harry recently shared his thoughts on media scrutiny and online safety during an interview with New York Times columnist Andrew Ross Sorkin at The 2024 DealBook Summit. When asked how he handles speculation surrounding his relationship with wife Meghan Markle, Prince Harry replied that the attention is not a good thing.

“I Google Newsed you, and there were people fascinated by everything you’re doing, all the time,” Sorkin said, referencing Meghan’s solo outing in California. “And there’s articles left and right about, you know, ‘Why are you making, doing independent events? Why aren’t you doing them together?'”

Prince Harry joked that he should have known better than to agree to be interviewed, but acknowledged the scrutiny as a challenge. He also emphasized his focus on being a good husband and dad, and his efforts to keep his family safe online.

“I feel as though it’s the life that my mom wanted for me,” Prince Harry said of living in the US with his children. “To be able to do the things I’m able to do with my kids that I undoubtedly wouldn’t be able to do in the U.K.”

The Duke also discussed the importance of online safety for young people, stating that he would like to work with social media companies to discuss safeguarding for children.

“I think when you grow up within that environment, you do find yourself questioning the validity of the information but also what other people are thinking of,” Prince Harry said. “I would welcome the chance to sit down with the shareholders, because their shareholders are the ones that really are in control.”

The interview highlighted Prince Harry’s growing focus on philanthropy and his desire to make a positive impact through his work with organizations like Archewell Foundation and Sentebale.
