Prince Harry Resigns as Sentebale Patron Amid Charity Dispute

Prince Harry has stepped down as patron of his African charity, Sentebale, after a dispute with its chair, Dr Sophie Chandauka. The decision comes amid allegations of poor governance and executive management within the organisation.

Sentebale was founded by Prince Harry in 2006 to support people living in poverty and those affected by HIV and AIDS in Lesotho and Botswana. In a statement, Prince Harry expressed shock and heartbreak over the trustees’ decision to quit and Chandauka’s subsequent lawsuit against the charity.

The dispute centered on a decision to focus fundraising efforts in Africa, according to reports. Harry and co-founder Prince Seeiso of Lesotho have remained as patrons until further notice. The Charity Commission has confirmed it is assessing concerns about Sentebale’s governance and will determine regulatory steps if necessary.

Chandauka denies the allegations, stating she acted to address issues of poor governance, executive management, and bullying within the charity. She accused others of playing the victim card and using the media to harm her. The commission has announced it is investigating these claims.
