Prince Harry’s Appeal on UK Security Continues

Prince Harry, 40, returned to a London courtroom on April 9 for the second day of his appeal hearing regarding his security in the UK. The Duke of Sussex is appealing the 2020 decision to strip him of automatic security following his and Meghan Markle’s decision to step back from royal duties.

During the court session, a woman in attendance expressed support for Prince Harry, directing her criticism at the press. She was seated late and seemed fidgety throughout the hearing.

Harry’s lawyer, Shaheed Fatima, highlighted the human aspect of the case, stating that one person’s safety is at stake due to the current security arrangement being considered inferior by him. The Master of the Rolls, Sir Geoffrey Vos, noted that the substance of the private session would be made public once an agreement is reached between both parties.

The appeal centers on the lack of a formal risk assessment when Prince Harry lost automatic security in 2020. Instead, the UK government’s RAVEC committee provided a case-by-case arrangement based on current needs.
