Private Industry Should Fund EV Charging Stations

As the US transitions to electric vehicles, it’s puzzling why federal officials are hesitant to provide funding for EV charging stations. In the past, when gasoline automobiles were gaining popularity, there was no expectation of government support for new gas pumping stations. Similarly, with the rise of capitalism, private investors should be expected to take on the cost of installing charging infrastructure.

Entrepreneurs like those who own McDonald’s, Subway, and other businesses could invest in charging systems, providing a convenient service to customers while generating revenue through food sales or other business deals. This approach would allow companies to reap long-term benefits from investing in EV charging stations. The same principle applies to hydrogen fuel cell cars, which will become increasingly abundant as the renewable energy economy develops. Private industry should take the lead in funding EV charging infrastructure to ensure a smooth transition to electric vehicles.
