Productivity Growth Follows Business Cycle Patterns

Economists John Fernald, Huiyu Li, and research associates Brigid Meisenbacher and Aren Yalcin have identified a recurring pattern in US labor productivity growth. During recessions, productivity grows temporarily before returning to its longer-run trend as the economy recovers.
