Project Strawberry, OpenAI’s new reasoning-focused artificial intelligence, may be available sooner than expected. According to reports, the AI model could launch within the next two weeks, beating its initial fall release date. Two testers claim that the original launch date has been moved forward to pioneer a new generation of AI tools.
Initially, Project Strawberry will be a standalone offering, but it’s unclear how it will be integrated into ChatGPT at this point. The AI model is expected to respond in more detail and take longer than GPT-4o, making it perfect for tasks that require reasoning and problem-solving.
However, the initial version of Project Strawberry will only be able to process text and not images, which is a shortcoming compared to other language models like Google Gemini. The pricing model is expected to differ from ChatGPT, with rate limits restricting users to a maximum number of messages per hour. A higher-priced tier may also be available that responds faster.
Project Strawberry has been used internally by OpenAI to solve puzzles and mathematical equations that would challenge ChatGPT. The AI model has even been used to solve word games like New York Times Connections, which is similar to Wordle.
It’s still unclear if Project Strawberry will be part of GPT-5 or a standalone offering, but we may not have long to find out.
