Prolonged Sedentary Time Linked to Higher Neck Pain Risk

A recent study published in BMC Public Health found that spending more than six hours a day being sedentary significantly increases the risk of neck pain. The review revealed that using mobile phones, especially for extended periods, poses the greatest threat, with an 82% higher likelihood of neck pain compared to non-sedentary individuals.

Researchers attributed this rise in sedentary behavior to widespread electronic device use, which often leads to poor posture and muscle tension in the neck and upper back. They also noted that lifestyle changes during the coronavirus pandemic have contributed to a surge in sedentary habits, leading to prolonged periods of muscle tension and increased risk of musculoskeletal issues, particularly in the neck region.
