Protect Yourself from RSV with TRICARE Vaccine

TRICARE beneficiaries can protect themselves against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) with a vaccine that is available now. The RSV vaccine is recommended for certain groups of people who are at higher risk of severe illness, including older adults and newborns.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has identified several groups as high-risk for RSV infection, including:
– Adults aged 60-74
– Adults 75 and older
– Pregnant women between 32 and 36 weeks of pregnancy
– Babies under 8 months old
– Some children between 8 to 19 months old who have a higher risk of getting very sick from RSV

The TRICARE vaccine is available at no cost to beneficiaries, and can be administered at military hospitals, clinics, or retail network pharmacies. Beneficiaries should contact their TRICARE provider to schedule an appointment before receiving the vaccine.

Getting vaccinated against RSV can help prevent severe illness and hospitalization, especially among older people. It’s also important for pregnant women to get immunized during pregnancy to protect their newborns from RSV infection.

In addition to the RSV vaccine, TRICARE beneficiaries can also protect themselves against flu and COVID-19 by getting annual shots during their RSV vaccination appointment.
