A performer from Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show was detained after waving a combined Palestinian and Sudanese flag during the performance. The individual, part of the 400-member field cast, had hidden the flag on themselves before the show began.
The protester displayed the flag with “Sudan” and “Gaza” written on it, along with a heart and solidarity fist, after Lamar performed his chart-topping diss track “Not Like Us.” The moment gained significant attention on social media, where videos showed the individual jumping from a car and fleeing the stage while still displaying the flag.
The NFL banned the protester for life from all events after the incident. Roc Nation stated that the act was neither planned nor part of the production, and security tackled the man who had not been formally arrested or charged.
The protest follows President Donald Trump’s recent proposal to relocate Palestinians from Gaza to neighboring Arab countries. The move has sparked controversy in the Middle East, particularly among immigrants from Sudan, where a civil war is raging.
