Proton Launches Privacy-Respecting AI Assistant Lumo with Zero Logging

Proton, a Swiss company behind popular privacy and security tools, has launched a new AI assistant called Lumo. The tool is designed to provide helpful assistance without tracking user conversations or retaining data. This aligns with Proton’s mission of putting user privacy over profits, as the company recently transitioned to a non-profit structure.

Lumo is built on open-source large language models and utilizes Proton’s encryption scheme. Unlike other AI companies that store conversations on their servers, Lumo keeps logs off-server and only decrypts chats on the device. The tool supports file uploads with full encryption and offers direct uploads from Proton Drive for ultimate security.

Lumo is available at lumo.proton.me or as a mobile app for Android and iOS devices. The service has three account tiers: Guest, Free, and Plus, each offering increasing features and price points. At launch, Lumo supports five languages, with more to be added in the future.

Proton’s commitment to transparency is evident in the tool’s open-source code release. This move further emphasizes the company’s dedication to user privacy and security.
