Proton VPN Joins Windows on Arm Ranks with Native Support

Proton VPN has announced the availability of its native support for Windows on Arm devices, joining a growing list of popular apps that now cater to this relatively new architecture. The VPN service’s Windows on Arm variant will offer identical features to its x64 counterpart, including kill switch and Secure Core.

The move is seen as a strategic response to Microsoft’s efforts to make Arm-based processors mainstream through its Rosetta 2 translation layer. With the launch of Windows 11 version 24H2, the built-in Prism emulator has improved significantly, rivaling Apple’s Rosetta 2 in speed and functionality. Proton VPN’s developer believes that this development is a strong signal for Microsoft to encourage OEMs to build Windows on Arm devices.

The company envisions a future where more devices run on Arm architecture, leveraging Proton VPN’s global server network to provide secure connections worldwide. As the most used operating system, Windows’ potential market share increase with native support for Windows on Arm is promising.

This development marks another milestone in the adoption of Windows on Arm, with apps like Arc browser, ExpressVPN, Vivaldi, and DaVinci Resolve 19 already supporting the architecture. With Proton VPN now on board, users can expect seamless experiences across various devices and platforms.
