Proton VPN Launches Native App for Next-Gen Windows Devices

Proton VPN has released its native application for ARM-based devices, providing users with seamless performance and the full range of core functionalities, including privacy and security features. The move strengthens VPN support on next-generation Windows computers.

In collaboration with Microsoft, Proton VPN developed a fully compatible app to take advantage of the Snapdragon X Elite chip’s Neural Processing Unit (NPU), which can handle up to 45 trillion operations per second. This enhancement offers improved battery life and super-fast performance.

Proton VPN has joined other top VPN providers in offering native applications for Windows ARM devices, including NordVPN, Private Internet Access, Windscribe, and Surfshark. ExpressVPN uses an emulator-based solution for its ARM-compatible VPN, while Proton VPN opted to build a native implementation using open-source technologies.

Future upgrades include IPv6 support on more apps, port forwarding on macOS and Linux, guest mode for iOS and iPadOS, and new Windows and iOS/iPadOS apps with improved customizations, mobile widgets, and battery optimization. These enhancements aim to enhance the overall user experience and provide further security features.

Proton VPN’s Product Lead Antonio Cesarano confirmed that the team is currently working on extending ARM support for other platforms, including macOS and Linux.
