Sony’s PlayStation 6 and handheld console have reportedly leaked specs that show a significant upgrade over the current PS5. The PS6 is expected to feature a 160W Thermal Design Power (TDP) and an AMD APU with 8 Zen 6 cores and up to 48 RDNA 5 compute units.
This would put it at around triple the rasterization performance of the PS5, making it comparable to an RTX 4080. Ray tracing performance is also expected to see a boost, thanks to AMD’s RDNA 5 architecture.
In contrast, the PS handheld console will have a lower TDP of 15W and feature 4 Zen 6C cores with between 12 and 20 RDNA 5 compute units. This puts its rasterization power at half that of the PS5, making it an impressive feat for a handheld device.
The leaked specs were based on an AMD presentation from 2023, but the details may have changed since then. Sony is expected to release the PS6 in mid-2027 or early 2028, with prices rumored to be around $499. The PS handheld console will likely launch at the same time, priced between $400 and $500.
The leaked specs also suggest that Sony plans to bring backwards compatibility for PS5 and PS4 games to its consoles, as well as continue PlayStation Plus’s game-sharing feature.
