A new partnership between Sony and Apple could bring significant excitement to Apple’s struggling mixed-reality headset, the Vision Pro. Bloomberg reports that the Vision Pro may soon support Sony’s PSVR 2 hand controllers, which were initially only available as part of a PS5 bundle.
The move is expected to improve the gaming ecosystem for the Vision Pro, addressing one of its main shortcomings. Currently, the device supports third-party controllers, but not native VR experiences. The addition of PSVR 2 controllers could change this.
Sony has reportedly been working on adding support for months after Apple approached them with a partnership proposal earlier this year. The company is also working to integrate the new controller support into games developed by third-party developers.
The PSVR 2 Sense controllers are highly regarded in the VR space, offering excellent comfort and haptic feedback. Their integration could enhance the overall gaming experience on the Vision Pro.
While this development may boost interest in the Vision Pro, it’s unclear whether it will be enough to address its current limitations. Apple has only sold around half a million units since launch, and developers have been slow to create native games for the device.
