PUBG maker Krafton has introduced a new AI-powered companion system called Co-Playable Characters (CPCs), designed to provide players with human-like teammates in the game. The technology, powered by Nvidia’s ACE platform and a small language model, allows for realistic conversations and decision-making.
In PUBG, players can team up with a “PUBG Ally” who responds to commands, such as finding specific items or running to their side. The AI companion will also engage in banter, adding a touch of personality to the game. While no release date has been announced for PUBG Ally, further CPCs are planned, including for Krafton’s upcoming life simulation game inZoi.
The technology uses Nvidia’s ACE platform and multi-modal SLMs, enabling the AI characters to comprehend player goals and adapt to tactics. The language model allows for human-like planning and decision-making, creating a more immersive gaming experience.
