Purdue Boilers Stumble in Upset Loss to Indiana University

Purdue suffered a 73-58 loss to Indiana University on Wednesday, with the Boilers’ offense struggling to find its footing. The game was closely contested, with IU taking an early lead before Purdue responded with a strong bench performance.

Indiana took control of the game in the first half, led by CJ Cox’s opening steal and layup, which gave them a 2-0 lead. Purdue tried to respond, but the Boilers’ offense seemed stagnant. However, after a brief timeout, Purdue’s offense came alive, with Braden Smith finding Camden Heide for a three-pointer.

The game was tied at 21-21 before Purdue went on a 12-0 run, sparked by Myles Colvin’s mid-range jumper and Fletcher Loyer’s transition three. The run gave Purdue a 28-21 lead with just over four minutes to play in the half.

Despite this strong response, Purdue struggled to regain its momentum, particularly after a flagrant foul on Trey Kaufman-Renn was called, which led to him fouling out. Indiana took advantage of this, extending their lead and eventually winning by 19 points.

The loss is a concern for Purdue’s NCAA Tournament hopes, with the Boilers’ offense struggling in several areas. The team will look to regroup and improve its performance heading into spring practice.
